Product Description

Motorcycle Exhaust Pipe Silencer Cotton Fiberglass Needle Felt Silencer

The fiberglass needled mat (felt)is made from alkali-free glass fiber yarn as raw material, with a single fiber diameter of 7 to 9 micrometers. The fibers are cut into short lengths ranging from 6cm to 9cm, and then subjected to carding and decomposition to create an extremely fine felt-like material. This material is then fed into a needle punching machine, where it is continuously stitched using thousands of needle punches. Its main components are silica, alumina, and calcium oxide. this needled mat has great thermal insulation, high air permeability and sound absorption.

The needled felt is light-weight with flexibility so it is easy to cut to make insulation covers and removable insulation blankets. Besides, this material is recyclable.

Structure of a motorcycle exhaust pipe

The structure of a motorcycle exhaust pipe consists of several key components, each with a specific function to help expel exhaust gases, improve engine performance, and reduce noise. Here's a breakdown of the main parts and their roles:

1. Exhaust Header (Manifold/Downpipe)

  • The exhaust header is the initial part of the exhaust system that connects directly to the engine's exhaust port(s).
  • Typically made of stainless steel or titanium, the header channels the hot exhaust gases from each cylinder (in multi-cylinder engines) and directs them toward the exhaust mid-pipe.
  • The design of the header (single or multiple pipes) and the angle affects performance, as it influences the exhaust flow rate and the backpressure on the engine.

2. Mid-Pipe (Collector)

  • In multi-cylinder motorcycles, the header pipes often converge into a mid-pipe or collector.
  • This pipe section combines the exhaust flow from multiple cylinders, further directing it towards the muffler.
  • The mid-pipe is usually designed to maintain the gas velocity to optimize performance. For some performance exhausts, there may also be a crossover pipe that connects the header pipes to balance exhaust flow between cylinders.

3. Catalytic Converter (if present)

  • Modern motorcycles often include a catalytic converter within the exhaust system to meet emission standards.
  • This component chemically reduces harmful emissions by converting carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) into less harmful substances.
  • Catalytic converters are usually positioned after the mid-pipe or collector and before the muffler to avoid too much backpressure.

4. Resonator (optional)

  • Some motorcycles have a resonator to further control the exhaust sound by absorbing specific sound frequencies.
  • Positioned before the muffler, resonators help tune the exhaust note without significantly affecting performance.

5. Muffler (Silencer)

  • The muffler is the final part of the exhaust system and is primarily responsible for reducing noise.
  • Inside the muffler, there are perforated tubes, baffles, and sound-absorbing materials (like fiberglass) that help dissipate the sound waves from the exhaust gases.
  • Mufflers come in various designs, from straight-through or "performance" mufflers (with minimal sound dampening) to complex designs aimed at noise reduction.

6. End Cap

  • This is the outer tip of the muffler, which is often designed with aesthetic and performance considerations.

Maximum temperature of a motorcycle exhaust pipe

The maximum temperature of a motorcycle exhaust pipe can reach over 500°C. Usually, the temperature of the front exhaust pipe is higher, reaching about 300°C, while the temperature near the engine may be as high as 800°C.

The temperature of a motorcycle exhaust pipe is affected by many factors, including road conditions, riding gears, etc. For example, when riding on a mountain road, when the second gear speed reaches 5500 rpm, the temperature of the exhaust pipe near the engine may reach 800°C, while the temperature at the starting point is at least 300°C. In addition, after the motorcycle has been running for half an hour, the temperature of the exhaust pipe may reach 120°C, and the temperature of the exhaust part may even reach 150°C.

It should be noted that although the temperature of the motorcycle exhaust pipe is high, the temperature of the muffler usually does not exceed 300 °C..Fiberglass Needle Felt Silencer Scooter Muffler CottonFiberglass Needle Felt Silencer Scooter Muffler CottonFiberglass Needle Felt Silencer Scooter Muffler Cotton
